Jose Clemente Murals

I recently passed by a favorite spot of mine, best cialis the Baker Library at Dartmouth College in Hanover NH, in particular, the reading room with murals by Mexican artist Jose Clement Orozco.  It made a huge impact on me when I was a kid.  Those and the massive Assyrian reliefs over at the Hood Museum of Art, just across the quad.  For a suburban teenager I was impressed  that one  could integrate art and architecture into a more enriching environment.  I was impressed by the simplicity and massiveness of the reliefs and the impact and message that the Orozco murals could make.  I was mesmerized.

Jose Clement Orozco was commissioned by Dartmouth as an artist-in-residency in 1932 and he completed the murals over the next two years.  Titled The Epic of American Civilization, they document the history of the Americas from the time of Aztecs to the industrialization of the 1930’s. They were recently added to the National Register in 2013.  CB.
